A solar roadway is any road that has some sort of solar panel technology attached to its surface thus producing electricity while also supporting the cars and trucks that drive on it. Solar roadways incorporated is an american company based in sandpoint idaho aiming to develop solar powered road panels to form a smart highway. Our panels contain led lights to create lines and signage without paint. That gives the company the funding to build a prototype about the size of a parking lot which will provide. Their proof of concept technology is a hexagonal road panel that has a glass driving surface with underlying solar cells electronics and sensors to act as a part of solar array with programmable capability.

They contain heating elements to prevent snow and ice accumulation. Before solar road panels are installed on major highways they need a significantly smaller road test to prove the concept.
